So in following in the footsteps of Ocdee and Mr. Carlos, I've decided to do this little questionaire. So here it is:
PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Me, the love of my life, married with 2 kids- a boy and a girl 3 years apart. A career i love and a great life, plus all of my friends from college and the homies from law school living in Atlanta or DC suburbs all down the street, happily married with their own families and loving their lives.
What is the trait that you most deplore in yourself?
my shyness. sometimes I just need to be a little more bold and go up an introduce myself to new people.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Dishonesty- i know we all tell little white lies on occassion. But come on don't make up an entire life. Be real about who you are or what you believe in.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Shoes!!!!!!!!!! I have way too many pairs and for some reason just can't stop buying them. I think its an obsession of some type.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
So the list (thanks Deah) Faith, Courage, Respect, Honesty, Discipline, Patience, Humility, Gratitude, Generosity, Perseverence, Compassion, and Forgiveness, the most overrated is Patience. It's probably the virtue that I possess the least thus I don't value it as much. I do need to be a lot more patient, however i believe it just comes with time.
On what occassion do you lie?
When I'm positive that someone does not want to know the real truth. There are just those times when you know that someone can't really deal with the situation and sometimes its better for them for you to just withhold the truth.
What do you dislike most about your appearance?
My boobs. Although I like the advantages that they bring me- they're a little large and I can't EVER FIND A BUTTON DOWN SHIRT THAT FITS. I wish they were a little smaller.
What living person do you most despise?
A year ago I would have definitely been able to answer this question with one specific name, but I've realized that the abhorance I felt for this individual stemmed more from hurt than anything. Right now there is no one that I despise.... I have plently of people that annoy me, but despise is just too strong of a word for them.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I curse ENTIRELY TOO MUCH! I use 'effin' and 'triflin' a lot.
What is your greatest regret?
There are a few things. Not being forthright with my feelings for someone that I was completely in love with, and having that relationship slip through my fingers because of it. Also not bothering to do my own investigation about money for law school when I got into my first choice.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Graduating from Spelman and conquering the LSAT (whewww, never want to do that again)
If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
My Grandfather- My Mom's Dad. The man was wealthy and incredibly successful when black people just weren't doing that. I want to know how he did it and also understand more about who he was and his motivations in life. He died when my Mother was very young so it would just be nice to get that perspective and see who he really was.
If you could choose what to come back as what would it be?
An Elizabeth Catlett Statue called Homage to my Young Black Sisters. Its a beautiful statute and its so inspiring.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
To die alone, unloved, and bitter.
What is your most marked characteristic?
my sarcasm. . . and possibly my smile.
Who are your favorite writers?
Maya Angelou, W.E.B Dubois, Carter G. Woodson (EVERY person needs to read Miseducation of the Negro), Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, Chenua Achebe. As far as modern day writers- E. Lynn Harris, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Marcus Major.
Who are your heroes in life?
Nate and Lorene for sure- these two individuals have dealt with so much stuff in their own lives and they have succeeded and managed to be wonderful parents in the process. My dad's parents- they valued education enough to make sure that all of their children had one even though they didn't. I have to admire that. Also- Mrs. Coleman (she's great!) and Mrs. Hardy (rest in peace).........
What are your favorite names?
Nathalie ( my name is great!!), Deah, Malaika, Tai, Sharla, Jessica, Carla, The Monastary, Lance, Kirsten, Brad, Jeff, Gerald, Jalylah, Tiffany, Phillip, Corrine, Amanda, Candy, Shane, Larrell, Aleron, Kareem- I must express a similar sentiment as Deah- these are all individuals that have had a profound effect on four years of my life that had to be the most wonderful period of existence. I miss them all in a special way.....
What is it that you most dislike?
Evil, miserable, and unhappy people- if people had more compassion and cared a little more about one another possibly life would be a little better.
